The Origin Of Destruction
Last August, I was invited to take part at DepthCore, an international digital art and design collective. Every 4-5 months, we release works around one theme.
This is my first entry on the theme of primal (beastly, origin…) The first thought I have for primal, instinct and beastly is violence, destruction. I’m very inspired by the book The Lucifer Principle where Howard K. Bloom explain why human self-destruct: ”Nature has made that form of tragedy a basic law of her universe. She presents her children with a choice between death and death. She offers a carnivore the options of dying by starvation or killing for a meal.” ”Why all this savagery? A lot of it springs from a simple biological commandment: be fruitful and multiply.” My piece is about genes fighting against others genes to have the privilege to procreate and destroy competition.

Paper artist Lisa Nilsson recently completed new anatomical pieces using her profoundly incredible skill with quilling, a tedious process where paper is tightly wound into small rolls and then assembled into larger artworks.

I’m working on a new piece, inspired again by anatomy. It is almost done, it just need more contrast. The last two wood panels I did turned not very well… I’m happy, this one is more obedient!

I am very inspired by medical stuff, so I found pretty images and reproduce them on wood panel (6 x 6 in) with colored pencils to decorate my home.
